Mrs. Elizabeth D Cook, age 93, of Rome, passed away after an extended illness.

Born in Tampa, Florida she became an Army wife, after marrying Charles S, Cook, a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Viet Nam. He preceded her in death in 2001.


 Unheard of in the 50’s she drove alone with two small children from California to New York with stops in Missouri and Detroit to pick up a new car. She and the children then travelled on a military transport  to join her husband in Germany.

She never stopped being resourceful and independent the remainder of her life.  Her children describe her as a brave, valiant and loving to the very end. She never let anything go without a “Thank You” or “Love You”.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Robinson –Rome, Son, John Charles Cook and his wife Florence Cook of Auburn Washington, one grandchild- Ms. Leigh Robinson and one great granddaughter Miss Elizabeth Suffill- Rome.

Other survivors include  a Sister in Law, Ruth Kopelson of Leesburg, Florida and a lifelong friend, Mary Nelle Kovach and family. Her Special  Caregivers, Winnie Cameron, Jackie Canada, Angie Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Carolyn Barton, Farrah Kennemore, Katrina Ragland, Nikki Martin, Tina Jones, Sharon Odum, Malinda Young, Amber Hembree and Jessie House, some of whom have been with her since 2010. They will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Oaknoll Chapel with The Reverend Doctor Dale Levan officiating.

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Heyman Hospice or the Fellowship Baptist Church, Burnett Ferry Road, Rome. The family would like to give a” Loving Thank You” to: Heyman Hospice employees, especially Pam Estes, RN and Tatum Grady, CNA and the caregivers of Rome Health and Rehab (formerly Golden Living).
