James Vernon Sutton

James Vernon Sutton, 77, of Rome passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at a local hospital. Born on August 31, 1940 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James Claude Sutton and the late Frances Cantrell. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Oostanaula Lodge #13. Over the years he owned several businesses which included Coosa Texaco and Wayside Market. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Ozell Wilson Sutton; his daughter, Tina Sutton Rogers; and his half-brother, James “Junior” Cantrell.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Renea Sutton of Cedartown; his granddaughters, Tina McCrickard (Ryan) of Rome, Regina Weaver (Jeremy) of Ellijay; his grandsons, Hobie Wooten (Harley) and Benji Wooten of Cedartown; his great grandchildren, Andrew Weaver, Austin Weaver, Lilly Wooten and Zeppelin Wooten.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Oaknoll Chapel. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion will have charge of Military Rites and Oostanaula Lodge #113 will have charge of Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
