Johnny Marion Corbett, 98, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was born November 8, 1918 in Pearson, Atkinson County, Georgia, the son of Martin C. Corbitt and Ella Pafford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Doris Eudora Wiggins; his siblings, Theresa (Lester C.) Corbitt, Iva (Woodrow) Bennett, Jesse (Harry) Corbett, Kathlene (Henry) Guthrie, M C (Nell) Corbitt, Newsome (Hilda) Corbitt, Emory Corbett and Mary Lydia (Roger) Edgar; his grandson Jeff Steadman; his granddaughter, Johnna Corbett and great granddaughter Deborah Parker.

His sole surviving sibling is Martha (Glenn) Chancey of Alapaha, GA. He is also survived by daughters, Chris Steadman and Marian Parker Waldhauer of Rome, and son, Johnny C. (Sandy) Corbett of Germantown, Ohio; his grandchildren, Greg Steadman and Susan (Mark) Floyd of Rome, Eddie (Mandy) Parker of Powder Springs, GA, Wes (Joan) Parker of Shelby, NC, Kim (Buster) Miller of Dalton, GA, and Starling (Paul) Reid of Prosper, TX; 22 Great-grandchildren, Laura Kate (Justin) Green, Jeremy Steadman, Kayleigh (Daniel) White, Corbett Floyd, Christina Floyd, Carson Floyd, Jonathan Parker, Kelly Parker, Erin Parker, James (Kimi) Parker, Elisabeth Parker, Emily Bryan, Luke Parker, Suzie (Austin) Wiggins, Benjamin Parker, Rachel Parker, Isaac Parker, Josh Miller, Lauren Reid, Ashley Reid, Parker Reid and Madison Reid; 5 great-great grandchildren, Keith Bryan, Timothy Parker, Katie Bryan, Jeremiah Parker and Samuel Parker; and many nieces and nephews.

Johnny was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in aircraft maintenance and was retired from Rome Kraft. He had been a faithful member of West Rome Baptist Church since 1955. He was a skilled tennis player and avid golfer. He was a master woodworker- his mantels, tables and other works are in private homes and churches in Georgia and Alabama. Everyone in the West Rome area will remember the “cute little man” working in his yard, and enjoying his flowers and swing every single day.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in Oaknoll Chapel with The Reverend  Jarrod Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.
